Crop-Specific Contributions
Cassava:
Nigeria, the world’s largest cassava producer, benefits from ACFAAPON’s push for processing into starch, ethanol, and high-quality flour. The association facilitates partnerships with industries for value-added products, reducing reliance on raw exports.
Palm Oil & Kernel:
ACFAAPON promotes sustainable palm oil practices and supports smallholders in adopting mechanized processing. Initiatives focus on refining crude oil into edible oils, soaps, and biofuels, while kernel processing targets cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
Soybeans:
Advocacy for soybean cultivation as a protein-rich animal feed ingredient and edible oil source. ACFAAPON links farmers with poultry and aquaculture sectors, enhancing domestic utilization and export of processed soy products.
Cocoa & Cashew:
Emphasis on quality improvement through fermentation and drying techniques. The association connects farmers with global chocolate and nut industries, bypassing intermediaries to secure premium prices.
Sesame & Rubber:
Promotes sesame as a drought-tolerant crop for export to Asian markets, while rubber initiatives focus on sustainable tapping and processing for automotive and medical sectors.
Rice:
Supports Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency by advocating for improved seed varieties, irrigation, and modern milling technologies. ACFAAPON collaborates with the government to curb rice smuggling and promote locally processed brands.
